338th Mountjoy Girls' Brigade

Picture
The MOTTO of the Girls’ Brigade is to
 "SEEK, SERVE AND FOLLOW CHRIST”

The AIM of The Girls’ Brigade is to help girls to become followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, and through
self-control, reverence and a sense of responsibility, to find true enrichment of life.

At present we have 107 girls on roll with 15 full time leaders, and we meet in Mountjoy Presbyterian Church Hall on the following nights and times:

Explorers:        Age 4-7            Wednesday nights            6.30pm - 7.45pm

Juniors:           Age 8-10           Tuesday nights                 6.45pm - 8.00pm

Seniors:          Age 11- 14         Tuesday nights                 7.45pm - 9.15pm

Brigaders:       Age 14+            Tuesday nights                 7.45pm - 9.15pm

GB Crest

All over the world, Girls' Brigade members wear the same badge which we often refer to as the GB Crest.
The badge has 4 main elements, each with a special meaning to those who wear it.

Girls' Brigade is a uniformed organisation. We choose to wear uniform because:
  • It encourages a sense of belonging
  • It promotes equality
  • It sets us apart as members of a Christian organisation

Each year our members aim to their earn badges through badgework which is carried out under 4 sections namely, spiritual, physical, educational and service.
  • Spiritual - scripture course
  • Physical - sport/dance
  • Education - badgework challenges
  • Service - in church and wider community

Each year we follow the GBNI Scripture Course and this year’s topic is on "God’s promises” where we hope that the girls realise that the promises that God made to the people years ago in the Bible are still as important to us today in our everyday lives.

We take part in all our District competitions and have been very successful.  Competitions this year include Football, Art and team games.

We do fund raising events in our company and also have a very successful night, before Christmas, for the members of Mountjoy Presbyterian Church.  Recently our officers wrapped shoe boxes for the
Operation Christmas Child Appeal which were made available to members of the church.

Our Chaplain is Rev Jonathan Cowan, minister of Mountjoy, who has the lead role in our company, and we
are greatly supported by the members of our congregation, and by family and friends of all the girls
in the company.
